Nigerian Correctional Service

The Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, MFR, mni, has commended the officers and men of the Nigerian Correctional Service for a job well done in 2022 and urged them to redouble efforts in 2023 to achieve the mandates of the Service. He mentioned this when he inaugurated the first lecture for the year, 2023.

 

The Controller General, who was represented by the Deputy Controller General of Corrections in charge of the Operations Directorate, Sylvester N. Nwakuche, mni, stated that the Service has rolled out lots of measures and is making concerted efforts to improve staff welfare. He listed some of them to include efforts toward restoring staff emoluments at par with sister security agencies, increased logistical provisions, massive staff housing, and promotion of staff as and at when due.

 

The CG also raised concerns about some misconduct observed among staff, especially in the misuse of official vehicles and other paraphernalia of office and implored staff to strictly abide by the new dress code to ensure uniformity. He directed that all staff must be evaluated by their Heads of Units in the new Performance Management System (PMS) introduced by the Federal Government in 2020.

 

In a vote of thanks, the Controller of Corrections (Staff/Human Resources), Stephen Ugbah, appreciated the CG for declaring the 2023 lecture open. He stated that Thursday's lecture is a lifeline to the existence and sustenance of the service. He went on to reel out the several advantages derivable from regular attendance at lectures, noting that it exposes the staff to the ethics and rubric of the job. He stated that the lecture is compulsory for all staff, and in 2023, all Unit Heads will be mobilized to present lectures on the functions of their units.
