Akure, Ondo State - A high-level delegation from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has conducted a final inspection visit to the Akure Custodial Centre for the proposed NOUN Study Centre.
The team, led by Mrs Adesina Modupe, National Coordinator of NOUN Special Study Centres, and CC AO Aremu, Controller in charge of the Education Unit, expressed satisfaction with the level of work done at the centre.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), the project's sole financier, was commended for its commitment and generous contribution to enhancing educational opportunities for inmates.
The proposed study centre aims to provide inmates with access to quality education and promote reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration. This initiative aligns with global best practices in correctional services.
The delegation appreciated the efforts of the Acting Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, in prioritizing inmate education.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Command, SC Oyewole Adedayo Akinwumi, the establishment of the study centre is expected to have a transformative impact on the lives of inmates.
