The volleyball team of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has been promoted to the elite Premier League Division after finishing in 2nd place on the league table in the just concluded season of the 2023 National Division One league by the Nigerian Volleyball Federation (NVBF).
The NCoS team finished as runner-up after a grueling and pulsating season that ended at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Consequently, the trophy was presented to the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa FICMC, MFR, mni, in his office today, October 19, 2023, by Assistant Controller General of Corrections in-charge Public health, Mohammed Gombe, alongside the NCoS Sports Director, CSC Sylvanus Yakubu, as well as the team’s captain, ASC Dauda Saje.
The Controller General, who was visibly elated by the performance of the team, appreciated them for winning the laurel and making the Service proud. He went further to state that the team will be given adequate support to prepare adequately for next season. He emphasized that the Service will continue to provide an enabling environment for sports development among inmates and staff, as it boosts physical and mental health, which is needed for better discharge of their duties.
The Controller General implored the team to sustain effort as the Premier League will be more challenging and urged them to remain dedicated and resilient for excellent performance.
