NCoS Strengthens Partnership with NDLEA

The Acting Controller General of Corrections (Ag. CGC), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, MFR, mni, today paid a working visit to Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd.), CON, OFR, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), at the Agency’s Headquarters in Abuja.

The NDLEA Chairman commended the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for its commitment to inmates’ reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration during the engagement. He reaffirmed the Agency’s dedication to supporting the NCoS in the rehabilitation of inmates with drug abuse-related offenses, recognizing the important role of Correctional Service in national security and public safety.

In his remarks, the Ag. CGC acknowledged the significant strides made by the NDLEA in combating drug-related crimes across the country and beyond while emphasizing the need for deeper inter-agency collaboration in key areas such as intelligence sharing, drug treatment programs, and the rehabilitation of inmates with a substance abuse history.

Brig. Gen. Marwa (Rtd.), in his response, congratulated the Ag. CGC on his well-deserved appointment, lauding his leadership style and experience in correctional administration. He highlighted the complexities of the correctional service and expressed confidence in the Ag. CGC’s capacity to advance the Service’s reform agenda. He further underscored the alarming impact of drug abuse on individuals and society, stressing the necessity for enhanced synergy between both agencies in tackling the menace through awareness campaigns, sensitization programs, and joint rehabilitative initiatives.

The visit reinforced the significance of a whole-of-government approach in addressing security challenges, advancing criminal justice system reforms, and fostering national development.
