The Honourable Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, today 12th September, 2022, inspected the site of the ongoing construction of a 3000 capacity custodial centre in Karshi, Abuja.
Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola who was led round the custodial facility by the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa FICMC mni, in company of superior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service as well as senior officers from other sister security agencies, inspected various sections of the facility including the staff quarters, cells, blocks, dining hall, school, worship centres, amongst others.
The Honourable Minister, while addressing journalists after the inspection tour of the facility, said that he is satisfied with the pace as well as the quality of work done so far, putting the level of work at 55 percent completed. He went further to state that the Federal Government under the leadership of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, is making concrete effort to improve infrastructure in all correctional centres in order to forestall any security breach.
The custodial facility is one among six (6) 3000-capacity custodial centres which the Federal Government is constructing in the six (6) geo-political zones of Nigeria to cushion the problem of overcrowding and congestion. The facility is a modern one and it is equipped with amenities such as courts, school, workshops, skills acquisition centres among others.
The Minister promised that before the end of the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, three (3) out of the six (6) custodial centres located in Janguza (Kano), Karshi (FCT), and Bori (Rivers) will be completed and commissioned for use.
