Inmates Shine at Qur'anic Competition

Kano, Nigeria - In a remarkable display of talent and dedication, inmates from three custodial centres in Kano State have participated in a prestigious Qur'anic recitation competition. The event, organized by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in collaboration with the Association of School Recitation Competition (RABIDA), aimed to promote rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.

The competition, which took place at the Medium Security Custodial Center in Kurmawa, saw inmates from Goron Dutse and Janguza custodial centres also participating. The overall winner, an inmate from Kurmawa, received a cash prize of ₦100,000, while the second and third-place winners received ₦50,000 and ₦20,000, respectively.

Controller of Corrections Kano State, Ado Inuwa, praised the event, stating that it aligns with the Correctional Service Act 2019, which aims to rehabilitate and reintegrate inmates into society. Inuwa also appreciated the support of the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi, and the organizers, RABIDA, for their commitment to the event.

GWANI Shuaibu Shehu, Chairman of the Association of Quranic Reciters, expressed gratitude to the NCoS and RABIDA for organizing the competition. He urged the inmates to utilize their knowledge to pursue education up to the university level upon their release.

The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy, Haj Azumi Bebeji, and representatives from the Kano State Government.

This initiative is a testament to the NCoS's efforts to promote rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates, and it serves as a positive example of how correctional facilities can support the personal growth and development of inmates.
