The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Yobe State Command, proudly announces the successful completion of Module One of its Digital Literacy Programme and the official launch of Module Two at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Potiskum, on April 14, 2026.
The three-month training programme is part of ongoing efforts to promote rehabilitation and reintegration through skill acquisition. The initiative was made possible through the support of the Yobe State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, in collaboration with the Yobe State Information Technology Development Agency (YITDA), which equipped the custodial centre with computers and other essential digital tools. This is in line with the Correctional Services Mandate and CGC's Sylvester Indidi Nwakuche's MFR mni commitment to reformation and rehabilitation programs.
A total of thirty (30) inmates are participating in the programme, acquiring practical skills in computer operations, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and graphic design.
The training is conducted under the supervision of Desk Officer DSC Ukasha Abdulkadir, alongside other dedicated staff members.
Speaking at the ceremony, the YITDA Coordinator described the completion of Module One as a significant milestone in advancing digital inclusion within the state. To mark the achievement, certificates of completion were presented to the participating inmates in recognition of their commitment and progress in acquiring essential 21st-century skills.
In addition, comprehensive toolkits were awarded to the top three performing inmates. These toolkits are intended to support the establishment of a computer business centre within the facility, thereby encouraging entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
In his remarks, the Officer in Charge of the facility, ACC Hafiz Kuda, speaking on behalf of the Controller of Corrections, Yobe State Command, expressed profound appreciation to YITDA for its unwavering support and commitment to the Service’s reformative and rehabilitative mandate.
The Nigerian Correctional Service remains committed to implementing programmes that empower inmates with relevant skills for successful reintegration into society.
