CORRECTIONAL OFFICER EMERGES BEST IN RESEARCH AT NISS

An officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Deputy Controller of Corrections Tukura Yamma Yakubu, has emerged as the overall best participant in research at the 2022 Executive Intelligence Course 15 of the National Institute of Security Studies, Lower Usman dam, Abuja.

Tukura’s research work was on Non-Custodial Measures and National Security in Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects. The correctional officer came out on top among other participants during the 10-month course, which saw participants were drawn from the various security agencies in Nigeria as well as other African countries like Niger, Ghana, Gambia, and Rwanda.

The research study was reputed to have taken on issues relating to the current security challenges bedevilling the nation. It went further to juxtapose the non-custodial measure as a novel measure in enhancing the administration of Criminal Justice in Nigeria. The research work gave an insight into the prospects, strategies and challenges of implementation of the Nigerian Correctional Service Act 2019.

The recommendations proffered by the study are expected to be utilized in furthering the activities of the non-custodial directorate in particular national security in general.
