The Acting Controller General of Corrections (Ag. CGC), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, MFR, mni, on 13th February 2025, paid a working visit to the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, at the EFCC Headquarters in Abuja.
During the visit, the Ag. CGC commended the EFCC Chairman for the longstanding and robust inter-agency collaboration between institutions. He reiterated his vision to reposition and restructure the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) towards greater efficiency and professionalism, further emphasizing the need to deepen cooperation, particularly in exploring innovative strategies for expediting the dispensation of justice and strengthening institutional frameworks for corrections and law enforcement synergy.
In his response, Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede warmly welcomed the Acting Controller General and commended his proactive leadership. He assured him of the EFCC’s support. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to fostering accountability, transparency, and good governance in the administration of justice in Nigeria, while also emphasizing the importance of sustained collaboration in tackling financial crimes and related offences, which have broader implications for national security and the economic stability of Nigeria. Expressing appreciation for the visit, Mr Olukoyede pledged to reciprocate the gesture, reinforcing the shared commitment to inter-agency collaboration.
A major highlight of the visit was the presentation of the EFCC Lapel of Honour to the Ag. CGC symbolises the strong institutional ties between both agencies. Discussions also focused on enhancing intelligence-sharing mechanisms and identifying new frontiers for collaborative efforts aimed at strengthening national security and the criminal justice system.
