Acting Controller General of Corrections Visits NSCDC Headquarters, Hails Collaboration on Custodial Facility Security

The Acting Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, MFR, mni, has commended the strong partnership between the NCoS and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in safeguarding custodial facilities across the nation. He described the synergy as a significant morale booster that should be nurtured and enhanced.

Nwakuche expressed these sentiments during his courtesy visit to the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja. The visit follows his recent appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on December 15, 2024, and forms part of his series of engagements with stakeholders, including Zonal Coordinators, State Controllers, and Commandants of Institutions.

The Acting CGC praised the leadership of NSCDC Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, OFR, mni, for fostering professionalism and strategic initiatives that have elevated the Corps’ reputation. According to Nwakuche, the achievements recorded under Dr. Audi’s administration have strengthened inter-agency cooperation and contributed to the safety and security of custodial facilities nationwide.

In response, Dr. Audi expressed his unwavering support for the Acting CGC, affirming his confidence in Nwakuche’s ability to provide exemplary leadership. The NSCDC boss noted their shared history as alumni of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and assured that the NSCDC is committed to sustaining its partnership with the NCoS.

Dr. Audi further revealed that directives have been issued to all State Commandants of the NSCDC to work closely with the NCoS in providing robust security for custodial facilities across the country. He emphasized the importance of this collaboration in addressing contemporary security challenges and reaffirmed that his office remains accessible for further assistance and cooperation.

The visit underscores the commitment of both agencies under the Interior Ministry to fostering unity and strengthening security measures for the nation’s correctional infrastructure.
