5 IDR PARDONED, 90 INMATES RELEASED

The Executive Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, OFR, today granted pardon to five inmates on death row (IDR) and released 90 inmates of various categories across custodial centres across the state.

This is to mark the Eid Fitr celebration and the effort of the state government to decongest the custodial centres.

Ganduje urged the released inmates to refrain from any action that might bring them back to crime.

A breakdown showed that five inmates on death row were pardoned and three inmates on life imprisonment were commuted to jail terms.

This was made possible through a report attesting to their good conduct, industry, and discipline while serving their various jail terms. They also showed remorse for the offences they committed.

Ganduje gave 5000 transport fare to each inmate released.

Suleiman M. Inuwa, Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Sulaiman M Inuwa thanked the Governor, on behalf of the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, FICMC mni, for his relentless support and assistance to the service and for his benevolence to the inmates during the month of Ramadan and the Eid Fitr celebration.

It can be recalled that the governor donated bulls, rams, and rice to mark the Sallah Celebration in Kano.
